About the Program
Vision:
Our goal is for artists to grow throughout their time with us. At Silver Art Projects, growth translates into expanding practice and amplifying impact. For up to 10 months each year, artists in the cohort can devote resources to creating without the economic pressures of NYC studio rent. Everyone at Silver Art Projects - our staff, supporters and funders, mentor artists, workshop speakers, thought leaders, collectors, and arts professionals – come to learn about the artists and see the work being created at the World Trade Center.
Impact:
During the artists residency period, both internal and external events are organized including: workshops, conversations (planned and serendipitous), studio visits and tours by Silver Art Projects for the artists. Artists during their time at Silver Art Projects develop their work, make significant connections, opportunities are generated to exhibit their work and they develop sustainable careers.
The 10-month long residency at Silver Art Projects has a profound impact, not only on the artists served, but on the entire cultural landscape of our country by addressing the structural inequity of opportunity for underrepresented artists. Artists in previous cohorts have made tremendous advances in their careers while at the residency – many have their first solo exhibitions, most gain gallery representation and some have exhibitions and works acquired by museums throughout the United States. Silver Art Projects is changing the very nature of who has access to these opportunities and outcomes. Museums, non-profit art spaces, galleries and educational institutions and public are the beneficiaries of Silver Art Projects supporting and empowering a new generation of artists.

Peer-to-Peer and mentoring:
Members of the artist cohort are guided through their residencies by peer-to-peer fellow artists from the previous Cohort and artist guests coming to mentor. Our peer- to-peer residents occupy studios alongside the cohort. Artists in the program also generate their own discussions and workshops designed to further residents’ practices and professional development. The overarching goal of the 2021 programming is to amplify diverse perspectives and foster artistic practices and empowerment.
